No more sewing on patches!

PREPARATION:
Wash and dry fabric before before applying patches. Iron the garment to prepare a smooth surface.

APPLICATION:
Put the patch on the top of the adhesive sheet and trace around it with a pen or pencil. Then cut out the badge shape with scissors. Remove the printed side of the paper and press the adhesive to the back of the badge. Peel off the remaining paper backing. The adhesive is now on the back of the patch. Handle it by the edges. Tuck any excess adhesive to the back of the badge.

Place the patch gently onto the fabric at the desired location. Move it around if necessary. When the patch is in the right place, PRESS it down firmly, especially the edges.

Turn the fabric over and RUB firmly from the back, again applying extra pressure to the edges of the patch. Pushing with a smooth solid object like the bowl of a spoon will help to create a stronger bond.

That’s It! Your garment is ready to wear. If a patch ever does start to peel up, it can be re-attached by cutting a little adhesive from an unused part of the adhesive sheet, peeling off the paper backing, and tucking it into the loose area of the patch. Then press the patch firmly back into place. If necessary for stubborn areas, you could always throw in a stitch to help hold it in place.

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS: IMPORTANT!
Wash and dry the garment separately from other clothes the first time it is washed. Follow the laundry instructions on the care label of the garment. If possible, turn the garment inside out before washing or drying. Tumble dry on a warm, not hot, setting. Do not iron over the top of the patches with a hot iron. DO NOT DRY CLEAN the garment unless you want to remove all the patches at once.

REMOVAL:
Need to remove a patch? Squirt Goo Gone® or Goof Off® (not Goof Off 2) on the back side of the patch. After 3-4 minutes, slowly peel off the patch. Any residue can be removed by applying more solvent behind the patch area and blotting it up with a paper towel. Repeat as often as necessary to remove the residue. Let the solvent evaporate, wash and dry if needed, and apply a new patch. To remove all the patches at once, have the garment dry-cleaned using the traditional "Perc" solvent method. The adhesive will be completely dissolved and patches and garments can be re-used.

BE AWARE: Badge Magic is non-toxic, but very sticky. Keep Badge Magic out of the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and hair! In most cases unwanted adhesive can be removed with the fingers. In stubborn cases a stain remover like Goo Gone® or a lubricant like WD-40® can be used to remove the adhesive from fingers and scissors.

PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT IRON Badge Magic. Ironing can melt the adhesive and push it into or through the fabric. This can result in patches coming loose and can create staining. Improper removal of Badge Magic can leave an unsightly residue on the garment which may be difficult to remove later. Please read the instructions carefully before applying Badge Magic as these problems can be avoided. Badge Magic will not permanently damage your garment, but it can require a lot of effort to remove it if these instructions are not followed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: What if I put a patch in the wrong place or want to move it to another spot?
A: Patches applied with Badge Magic can be repositioned before they are pressed into place by carefully peeling off the patch with the adhesive and repositioning it. If the patch to be repositioned has already been firmly pressed onto the fabric or heated in the dryer, spray the material behind the badge with the household solvent called Goo Gone®, or the original version of Goof Off®, (not Goof Off 2). Make sure the whole area of the patch is completely covered with the solvent. Wait for 60 seconds and slowly peel the patch from the fabric, taking care to remove as much adhesive as possible. It is possible there may be some adhesive left on the fabric. To remove this residue follow up with the blotting procedure noted in the removal directions. The solvent will evaporate from the patch and garment in a few days, after which the patch can be re-applied with a new layer of Badge Magic adhesive. After removing the patch, place it upside down on a non-porous surface like glass or ceramic tile that the solvent will not harm. You can also lay it on the back side of the Badge Magic sheet. Let it dry for at least 24 hours before re-applying. If the adhesive feels gooey to the touch or comes off on your fingers, it is not yet time to re-apply the patch. Wait until it is sticky to the touch but feels solid and does not come off onto your fingers when you touch it.

Q: How can I remove some patches without affecting the other patches?
A: To remove one or more patches, spray the household solvent, called Goo Gone®, or the original version of Goof Off®, (not Goof Off 2) on the garment material from the backside of the fabric in the patch area. Apply the solvent only to the patch area you wish to remove and try to keep it from spreading to other patches, but make sure to thoroughly soak the patch area. Wait for 60 seconds and slowly peel the patch from the fabric, taking care to remove as much adhesive as possible. If any adhesive residue remains, apply more solvent on the back of the garment and blot the residue off the shirt with a paper towel from the front. Repeat this several times until you do not see any more adhesive. If any residual adhesive is still visible, repeat the soaking and blotting process. There may be a faint ring left on the fabric caused by the solvent; this will come out in a normal wash cycle. You can either wash and dry the garment and then apply a new patch over the area or wait for the solvent to evaporate and then apply the new patch.

Q: If my patches are too close together, will I loosen them both when I try to remove one?
A: This is not usually a problem. Just be careful not to pull up the wrong patch. Be careful to let all the solvent, especially that solvent that was soaked into adjacent badges, evaporate before using or washing the garment again.

Q: How can I remove all of the patches at one time?
A: The best way to remove all patches from a garment is to have it dry cleaned at a cleaner that uses the perchloroethylene solvent process. Check with your dry cleaner to make sure they use the dry cleaning solvent called perchloroethylene ("perc"). Some cleaners use a non-perc process that does not remove the Badge Magic adhesive. By dry cleaning, the Badge Magic adhesive will be removed without a trace and both the garment and the patches will be ready to be used again! Make sure to have the cleaners put the garment in a bag prior to cleaning to keep the patches from getting lost.

Q: Why did my patches not come off when I had my garment dry cleaned?
A: Most dry cleaners (about 85%) use the traditional dry-cleaning solvent known as perchloroethylene ("perc"). This is the solvent that will dissolve Badge Magic adhesive. If they use either the "wetcleaning" or liquid carbon-dioxide methods, the Badge Magic adhesive is not affected. Ask around for a dry cleaner in your area that uses the perchloroethylene dry-cleaning solvent. Known areas that do not use Badge Magic compatible dry cleaning techniques include California and Evansville, IN.

Q: How can I remove the adhesive residue left on the fabric?
A: To remove any adhesive left on the fabric, spray on the household solvents called Goo Gone®, or the original version of Goof Off®, (not Goof Off 2) from the backside of the fabric in the patch area. Make sure to thoroughly soak the area with the solvent. Wait for 60 seconds and slowly peel the patch from the garment. Rub any visible residue off the garment with a paper towel from the front. Then re-apply the solvent and blot the excess into a paper towel. It helps to use an old toothbrush to scrub the stained area as the solvent soaks through into the paper towel. Repeat this several times until you do not see any more adhesive. If any residual adhesive is still visible, repeat the soaking and blotting process. There may be a faint ring left on the fabric caused by the solvent, this will come out in a normal wash cycle. You can either wash and dry the garment and then apply a new patch over the area or wait for the solvent to evaporate and then apply the new patch. If the patch has been ironed, it will take several blotting procedures to remove all adhesive completely. This is because ironing has caused the adhesive to be pressed into the weave of the fabric. Dry cleaning at a cleaner that uses the perchloroethylene cleaning solvent will also remove the residue from the fabric.

Q: Can the Badge Magic adhesive residue wash off with water and detergent?
A: No. The adhesive resists water and detergent. Worse yet, the adhesive residue may stick to other parts of the garment, to other clothes, or even to the inside of the dryer! Do not wash patches that have been removed. Instead, stick them on the Badge Magic backing sheet until you want to put them on a garment again or use the household solvent called Goo Gone®, or the original version of Goof Off®, (not Goof Off 2) to remove all residual adhesive from the item.

Q: Can I use my patches again after they have been removed with the household solvent like Goo Gone®?
A: Yes, the patches and garments are completely reusable. Let the solvent evaporate completely and if the original adhesive is still on the patch, you can just stick it on again. For the best adhesion, use a new coating of Badge Magic and press the patch firmly onto the new location following the Application process above.

Q: Where can I buy the household solvents called Goo Gone® and Goof Off®?
A: Goo Gone® and Goof Off® (be sure to use the original formula, not Goof Off 2) are sold in many stores, including Lowe’s and Home Depot. For the location of the nearest retailer for Goof Off go to the Goof Off Website. You can also order Goof Off from Drugstore.com and Goo Gone from Magicamerican.com as well as other online retailers.
